Today we discuss an important part of the short game, chipping, what clubs to use, and when.  Too many times, golfers use their Sand Wedge or Lob Wedge when a straight-faced club would do a far better job.  Here are some chipping strategies to lower your score around the green! The Golden Rule in chipping is "Fly the ball as little as possible and roll the ball as much as possible."  This takes a lot of bad shots out of the equation.  Even a miss-hit 6 iron will end up closer to the hole than a miss-hit Sand Wedge. A miss-hit Sand Wedge will go screaming across the green or end up three feet in front of you.  Always choose the least amount of loft possible.  That's not to say I never chip with A Sand Wedge or Lob wedge.  But only when the situation dictates.

I will use aI will usually chip with a Pitching Wedge when I have to fly the ball halfway and roll the ball halfway.  I will chip with an 8 iron when I need to fly the ball one-third and roll two-thirds.  And I will chip with a 6 iron when the airtime is one-quarter of the distance.  The ball will roll three quarters.

Memorize these clubs to make your chipping a lot easier in the future!
