This week we honor Jordan Spieth's spectacular win at the Open Championship. We talk about the critical course management decisions that Jordan and Matt Kuchar made on the 18th hole in the final round.

The two tee shots on the 18th hole of the Open Championship totally dictated the outcome.  Jordan Spieth had a two-shot lead.  Knowing the 18th was the 2nd most difficult hole on the course, he decided to play for a 5.  Matt Kuchar would have to make a 3 to tie. Jordan took an iron off the tee, laid up with his second, pitched on, two-putted for the victory.

Matt Kuchar did the right thing taking the driver off the tee.  Knowing he needed 3 to possibly tie, he took a chance.  But, he did not hit the shot that was needed.  Put the ball in the right rough, and the tournament was basically over right there.

Both players made the right course management decisions. Jordan pulled off the shot. Matt did not.

Matt Kuchar was gracious in defeat, but he knew that the off-line tee shot on 18 took away his chance to fight another day!
