Today we talk about the high soft pitch shot when you are fairly close to the green.
The first thing you want to do that is slightly different from a normal pitch is your weight, even on both feet. You want the shaft to be at 90 degrees to the ground at the address. Use your 60-degree lob wedge for this shot.
Do not try and scoop this shot. There is plenty of loft that will get the ball up high. Ensure that the butt end of the club finishes pointing at your stomach when you have finished this shot. If the clubhead finishes high and the butt of the club is pointing to the ground, you are either scooping or hitting too hard.
This is a finess shot. Swing softly. There is no hurry. The hands and arms should swing through at the same speed on the backswing and follow-through.
Control the speed of this shot with body rotation. If you need more distance, rotate through quicker, not speed up the arms.
This is a motion you can work on at home to get both good technique and correct speed. When you head to the course, do some rehearsal swings before playing the shot to put the speed into your head before you swing.
