While thinking about what tip I would do for our Trouble Shot Tuesday, I noticed that it was an extremely windy day.  This reminded me of a round of golf I played in Ireland in about 2013 while taking a group of students over there for a golfing vacation.  We played at the European Club, a tough course on any day.  But this day was extremely windy, and I took a page from European Tour player Padraig Harrington's book. I widened my stance, locked my knees, and kept my putting stroke really small.  This allowed me to keep my body steady in the wind, and I could score very well that day.

The Method.

Widen your stance to about twice the normal width.  Lock your knees and crouch down more, giving your body a lot more stability in the strong wind.  Then make sure you keep your putting stroke compact.  This method will help keep unnecessary movement to a minimum. Focus on the tempo of your stroke.  The buffeting wind will tend to make you rush your shots.

Also, take into account that the roll of the ball will be affected by the wind.  Downwind putts will be a lot faster, and into the wind will be a lot slower.  Pay particular attention to cross-wind shots as these are the most difficult. It is an educated guess as to how much the wind will affect the putt, but pay attention to each putt as you can use that information for the rest of the round.  Pay attention to the grain.  If the grain goes in the same direction as the wind, it will break a lot more.  The opposite is true if the wind is going in the other direction.
