Tiger Woods has been one of the best putters of his generation for several years. His dedication to his craft, along with a huge amount of athletic ability, has made him one of the best golfers in history! Learning from him can only help your golf game. Here is a description of a putting drill he regularly does before he goes out to play.
The Method.
Take two tees and place them in the ground slightly wider than your putter head and about 5 to 6 feet away from the hole. Place your putter head behind the ball and start hitting putts with one hand. It does not matter which hand you start with, but practice this putt for about 5 minutes and switch hands and do for another 5 minutes. The biggest key to the drill is to do this every day. There is no time limit on the drill! Tiger has been doing this drill for years and still does. That alone shows just how important this drill is to him. It isn't easy in the beginning. Do not give up! When you don't have time to go the putting green on the course, do it on your carpet at home. You won't be sorry!
The Technique.
Make sure the putter head moves back and through in a straight line. Work on keeping the lead wrist flat through impact when using the lead hand and make sure the palm of the trailing hand keeps the putter face square to the target line throughout the putting stroke.
