Follow along as this war of words unfolds between two very opinionated people.  In my opinion, Rory is more qualified to talk about this subject!

As a golf analyst with the Golf Channel, Brandel Chamblee is paid to voice an opinion. Unfortunately, sometimes there is no filter between the brain and the mouth, and this time, Brandel has put his foot in it! Most people (including professional golfers) do not respond well to criticism, particularly when it is not constructive. Brandel could just as easily have said, "I wonder if strenuous workout routines are detrimental to professional golfers?"  That way, he has addressed the issue, opened it up for debate, and everyone would be friends.  In fact, he could have invited Rory to a Golf Channel interview to hear his thoughts on the subject without adopting an "I know it all" attitude.

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. –– Rory McIlroy’s evolution from gawky teen when he turned pro to the chiseled physique of his 20's isn’t quite the body makeover of the LPGA’s Cristie Kerr, but it could be a close second.

Hot Topic.

On Tuesday, McIlroy’s fitness program, in particular, his use of weights, became a hot topic in golf after Golf Channel’s Brandel Chamblee said during a conference call with members of the media, “The only thing that gives me concern about Rory going forward – I say it with a lot of trepidation because it's a different era for sure and I don't know the full extent of what he's doing,

Tiger in the same boat?

But when I see the things he's doing in the gym, I think of what happened to Tiger Woods. I think more than anything, as much as Tiger Woods did early in his career with his game was just an example of how good a human being can be. What he did towards the middle and end of his career is an example of being wary of. So that's just my opinion. And it does give me a little concern when I see the extensive weightlifting that Rory is doing in the gym.”

McIlroy didn’t take too kindly to the critique. First, he tweeted a short video of himself pumping iron and followed with the specifics of his workout: “Re the squats, it was the last set of 3x3 at 120kg(265lbs). Did 3x10 at 100kg(225lbs) before that. I'm 165lbs. I'm a golfer, not a bodybuilder.”

It reminded one observer of the time McIlroy flew off the handle after another television analyst, Jay Townsend, criticized McIlroy’s caddie, J.P. Fitzgerald. On that occasion, McIlroy tweeted, “Shut up. You're a commentator and a failed golfer. Your opinion means nothing!"
