Today I will discuss the proper way to manage a situation where you have hit your drive off-line, and you don't have a clear shot to the green.

Gary Player used to say, "Never follow a bad shot with another bad shot!"  This tee shot was poor. I want to get the ball back in play and eliminate the big numbers.  By pitching out and leaving myself about 100 yards to the flag, I will most probably make 5, but there is a high probability that because I have a short iron in my hand, I could get it close and make a putt for my par.

This shot has two large trees in the way, and I have a large pond to carry.  If the ball clips the tree even slightly, it will end up in the water.  I would then be playing 4 from in front of the pond instead of the 3 I would be playing by chipping out.  It is in these situations that discretion is the better part of valor.  Take your lumps and move on.
