Today I will discuss how to play the percentages when it comes to laying up to specific yardage to give yourself the best chance to make a par.   A great way to manage your game around the course.

Because this par 5 is unreachable in two for me, I use a 3 wood off the tee to guarantee I put the ball in the middle of the fairway. In the second shot, I try to put the ball in a spot that will leave a full wedge or a long pitch shot, making sure that I again put the ball in the fairway and well away from any danger. My third shot comes up a little short.  I felt I hit it well. Maybe there was some wind up high that I did not see.  But I had taken enough club to clear the bunker in front, leaving me a fairly easy chip.

Instead of chipping with my pitching wedge, I decided to drop down to a sand wedge because I saw the greenkeeper had shaved the green pretty thin and calculated that the green was a little faster.  I was right, and the ball rolled up to a couple of feet for an easy tap-in for my par!

Course management helped me par this hole, even though I did not hit any spectacular shots. I left the green satisfied with my par 5.
