Almost every week you watch golf on TV, you see the pros extract themselves from the bunker. It seems like they can do it with their eyes closed. Well, they probably can. These players stand in the practice bunker for hours and hours, practicing all the possible lies they can get in a bunker on the golf course. Uphill, downhill, high shots, low running shots, and this month the dreaded buried shot. With the proper technique, all of these shots are within our reach!

Technique.

In Picture #1, My ball has buried the sand. Firstly, hood the clubface. This will cause the clubhead to dig in on the downswing and get the ball out.

Grip Pressure.

Second, keep your grip pressure soft. This will allow the club to turn in your hand after entering the sand, allowing the clubface to square off and the ball to come out towards the target.

Third, like all bunker shots - make sure you follow through. The club will tend to slow down as it makes contact with the sand, so keep the torso turning through the shot as in picture #2,

and the club will continue through the sand without any problem.

Here are a few rules:

Close the clubface at address.
Grip the club very lightly.
Hit approximately 2'' behind the ball.
Make sure you follow through to the target.

So off you go to the driving range to add another shot game shot to your growing arsenal of shots to lower your scores!
