Today we discuss how to hit a low straight shot that Tiger Woods calls his Stinger Shot!

I play the stinger shot with a long iron or hybrid.  The goal here is to keep it low and keep it on the fairway.  I will choose to hit the stinger shot when I am playing a narrow par 4 that is not very long. When playing the short 5th hole at Pawleys Plantation, a 4 iron will get me to the 150-yard marker.  So I don't need anything longer.  I could also use the #2 hybrid, but that brings the two bunkers on the right into play.  The penalty is too severe if I go in that direction.

The stinger is played a little further back in the stance, and I make sure that I stay in my spine angle to keep the ball from going to the right.  The stinger is also a shot you can play when you are in the trees and need a low shot to keep the ball under the branches.

Practice this shot on the range to gain the confidence that you can hot this low shot, so when you have it on the golf course, you can stand up with confidence in your ability!
