Before I start, please let me apologize for stating the incorrect date. I said it is Tuesday the 14th instead of the 17th. I was shooting many of these tips in advance as my webmaster was going away on vacation for 3 weeks, and I wanted him to get these uploaded to YouTube before he left. So I was a little confused about what day I was shooting! Hard to get old.
This is one of the toughest short game shots you will ever face on a golf course. However, understanding the technique and a lot of practice will add a valuable shot to your short game arsenal! The Method.
You have to play what I call the "Tomahawk" shot. This means that I have to get the backswing and downswing very steep and then cut across the ball with the clubface remaining open. You want to use either your sand wedge, but preferably the lob wedge. The more loft you have on this shot, the better! It is the only shot where you intentionally "chicken wing" with your lead arm to prevent the clubface from turning over. Keep the lower hand under and facing the sky as you go through impact. Because you are adding quite a bit of loft to this shot, make sure you are really aggressive. This is not for the faint-hearted.
