Rear Wrist Angle - Short Game Saturday #27.

A Golf Video Blog with the Mel Sole Golf School.

Today, David Olberding discusses how to hit a proper chip shot by maintaining your right wrist angle.  A great way to hit crisper chip shots and save strokes to your round!

The Secret!

Using a well-known training aid called "The Secret" by Greg Norman, David Olberding, PGA Instructor at the Mel Sole Golf School, makes sure that the rear wrist always stays in the same position at the address.  This ensures a crisp feeling chip shot every time!

To control the roll on a chip shot, the club's loft must be the same every time.  If not, the roll will never be the same.  The key to keeping the same loft in each shot is to control the rear wrist angle.  This prevents the flipping motion that many amateurs have, which changes the loft almost every time.  By keeping the rear wrist cupped, ensures the lead wrist stays flat.  Check your wrist position at the end of each chip and note the position of either hand.  Either the cup of the upper hand or the breakdown of the lower hand.  This motion is worth spending time on as it will influence every chip you ever hit on the golf course.

Practice with one hand.

By practicing with one hand, you teach the body to make the proper turn and to hold the proper wrist angle in every shot.  You will never get this without practice.  So head to the range right now!
