Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.

Watch as I explain why you might be slicing or hooking.  Wrist position!

If you have a problem with hooking or slicing the ball, this golf tip is for you.   I demonstrate proper wrist position at the address and the top of the backswing.  Highlighting common problem spots and their fixes.

Wrist Position at Address.

When you take your grip, you are automatically setting your wrist position.  If you have a strong three-knuckle grip, your lead wrist will be significantly cupped at the address position.  At the address position, the degree to which you are cupping your wrist must match the same degree at the top of the swing.  If you have a weak one-knuckle grip, then the lead wrist should be fairly flat at the address position.

Wrist Position at the Top of the Backswing.

If you have a strong grip with a cupped wrist at address, then you must cup your wrist the same amount at the top of the backswing.  The easy way to check is to note the position of the clubface at the top of the swing.  It should be at 45 degrees to the ground. This is a square Clubface.  A closed clubface will be facing the sky, and an open clubface will have the toe of the club pointing to the ground.

Thanks for watching The Wrist Position Must Match, and I hope this insight will help you attain a square clubface at impact and thus straighter golf shots!
