Today I talk about the importance of lining up the line on your ball with your intended path. And also matching the line of the putter with the line on the ball. Do both, or you are wasting your time!
I recently watched golf on TV, and I noticed Lee Slattery miss two or three 6 footers. Those putts ultimately cost him the tournament. I also noticed the line on the ball (which almost all tour players use) and the line on his putter did not match. When he set up his putter, he was aiming a little left. He missed all those 6 footers to the left.
More recently, I was on the putting green, and my lead instructor David Olberding was watching me putt and noticed the same thing. I was skeptical when he told me my putter was aimed left of where I thought I aimed the putter. He went and got the video camera and filmed my putting stroke. Showing me the film really amazed me. The moment I started to take more time in making sure that the line on the putter matched the line on the ball, I started to sink more putts.
