A golf ball comes to rest against an out-of-bounds fence. The pole supporting the fence is on the golf course side, and the poles are wider than a golf ball. Is the golf ball in or out of bounds?

Last Week’s Question and Answer.
Last week’s quiz presented a situation that happened a few years ago at The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. On the famous 17th green, in fact. A player, whose name I cannot remember, had hit his ball on the green. He went to mark his ball and, as he stood up, tossed his ball to the caddie without actually looking at the caddie. The caddie was not paying attention, and the ball went sailing past and into the water. What is the ruling? Is there a penalty, and if so, what is the procedure the player should follow?
The answer is the player must keep the point where the ball last crossed the hazard's margin between himself and the hole. Or in this case, the player was allowed to go around to the drop zone and play a shot from there.
