This week we continue our 5 part series on the Golf Power package. How to gain more distance, not only off the tee but throughout your clubs in your golf bag.

Last week we discussed the takeaway and how to create a bigger arc on the backswing by keeping the "V" between your forearms on the first part of the swing.  Today we continue that theme by making sure that you create a full shoulder turn.

The Method.

Start without a club in your hands.  Cross your arms across your shoulders and slowly turn your chest with your trail shoulder turning behind your head.  Then take your club and after starting the first part of the backswing as discussed, keep turning your trail shoulder behind you.  This will be slightly more difficult than the exercise without the club, but at least you will understand how much the shoulders have to turn.

When you get to the top of the backswing, stop.  You should feel uncomfortable and "tight."  This is you creating "coil" on your backswing.  Without coil, you will not create the speed you need on the downswing.  Just look at a baseball pitcher.  When he stands on the mound, he coils his body and lifts his lead leg to get as much coil as possible to create the velocity he needs to be a top-class pitcher.

Flexibility.

If you still cannot get a full shoulder turn, you need to work on your flexibility.  Follow some of my Fitness Friday Blogs like this one using a golf cart just before your round  - Stretches using a golf cart.
