Increase Clubhead Speed - Fitness Friday #69.

Today, Matt Scott, a fitness instructor focusing mainly on the golf swing, helps with strength, flexibility, and endurance exercises.  Matt talks about a subject that every golfer is interested in - clubhead speed and how to create it.  Enjoy!

Speed Drill.

Take a golf club and get into your setup.

  1. Swing from your dominant side as fast as you can.  3 reps.
  2. Swing from your non-dominant side as fast as you can.  3 Reps.

Get into a kneeling position.  Use a sponge mat or something similar to protect your knees.

  1. Swing from your dominant side as fast as you can.  3 Reps.
  2. Swing from your non-dominant side as fast as you can.  3 Reps.

Now turn the golf club upside down and hold onto the clubhead. 

  1. Swing from your dominant side as fast as you can.  3 Reps.
  2. Swing from your non-dominant side as fast as you can.  3 Reps.

Step-Through Drill.

Take a golf club and get into your setup. Put your feet together.

  1. Go to the top of the backswing.  As you start the downswing with your dominant side, you step your lead foot forward and swing through as fast as you can.  3 Reps.
  2. Go to the top of the backswing.  As you start the downswing with your non-dominant side, you step your back foot forward and swing through as fast as you can.  3 Reps.

Baseball Swing.

Stand up nice and tall.  Back straight.  Imagine that the ball is on a long tee with the ball level in the middle of your chest.

  1. Swing from your dominant side as fast as you can.  3 Reps.
  2. Swing from your non-dominant side as fast as you can.  3 Reps.

There you have it. Fitness Friday #69 Increase Clubhead Speed Ensure you are always swinging as fast as you can, both left and right-handed.
