Every golfer on the planet wants to hit the ball further than they currently do.  Even Dustin Johnson, one of the longest hitters on the PGA Tour, would not say no to an increase in distance.  Obviously, the further you can hit the ball off the tee, the less club you will have into the green. So it is no fluke that the longer hitters on either the PGA, European or LPGA Tours are among the leading money winners.

So how can you get more distance without having to go to the gym and work out?  Get a bigger arc in your golf swing!

The Technique!

From your address position, note that if both arms are fairly straight at address, you have formed a "V."  As you start the backswing, try and keep this V at least past hip height.  This will dramatically increase your backswing arc.  Do not let either arm bend until the wrists start to hinge at about hip height.  Then complete your backswing.  If you stop at the top of the backswing, it should feel uncomfortable!  This means you have created the necessary torque to get your body into position to start the downswing with a lot of speed.

As you go through impact, make sure you once again keep that V through to at least hip height on the other side.  This is what we call the extension.  This is going to not only increase your arc width but increase your accuracy as well.  The longer you can keep the clubhead moving through to the target, the straighter you will hit the ball!

Head out to the driving range and work on this with a short club in the beginning to get the feel. Then, slowly progress through your clubs until you get to your driver.  You will be pleased with the results!
