Today we talk about a situation Charlie Hoffman found himself in at the Canadian Open this past weekend.  Knowing the rules will always help.  See how Charlie took advantage of his knowledge to get a better ball position!

As Charlie Hoffman took his stance in the bunker on the 12th hole in the final round of the Canadian Open, he noticed that the sand had slipped away and exposed the concrete lining of the bunker.  You could actually hear his spiked shoes making a grinding sound on the liner as he attempted to take his stance.  He called for a ruling and got a free drop under the immovable obstruction rule.

This is the same rule that allows players to get relief from a cart path!  Charlie Hoffman knew the rules and used them to his advantage.  He got a drop from a terrible lie.  His playing partner might not have been happy, but everything Charlie did was perfectly legal!  As I've always said, "The rules are there to help you, not to hinder you."  Know the rules; lower your scores!
