Today in our Golf Video Blog, we discuss hitting off a downhill lie.  Understanding the ball position is critical in playing this shot correctly.

On uneven lies, always play the ball off your highest foot.  In this case, the back foot is higher on a downhill lie than the front foot to play the ball slightly back in the stance.  This will cause me to de-loft the club slightly, so I want to take one club less than I normally would from the distance I am playing.

The weight will automatically be on the front foot (because it is lower), and so I need to guard against the upper body moving forward on this shot. On the backswing, there is no weight shift to the back foot.  The weight stays on the front foot to keep the body level.  If you allowed the weight to move to the back foot because the back foot is higher than the front foot, the body would raise. Take a normal follow-through.

Next Tuesday, we will cover the uphill lie!
