Getting out of trouble takes some skill to be able to move the ball from right to left and left to right.  Doing this simple drill will help you understand how the ball curves in the air will make it a lot easier once you put a club in your hand.

Watch as Mel Sole and David Olberding demonstrate how to understand curving the ball at will.

What is the difference between a Slice and a Fade? (or a Hook and a Draw)

The main difference is the amount of curve.  A draw and a fade have very slight movement in the air.  About 10 yards.  A Hook or a Slice curves much more than that.  The bigger the curve, the more side spin must be imparted on the ball.

Left to Right Shot.

Left to right shot indicates the direction the ball started on. (to the left) And the spot the ball curved to. (to the right) To curve the ball to the right, the clubface's toe must pass the heel through impact.

Right to Left Shot.

The right to left shot indicates the direction the ball started on. (to the right) And the spot the ball curved to. (to the left) To curve the ball to the left, the clubface's heel must pass the toe through impact.

I hope Trouble Shot Tuesday #65 clarifies your understanding of how to curve the ball.  Head out to the range and test this newfound knowledge to learn to curve the ball the right amount.
