This video ties in with my upcoming golf tip. Create Explosive  Lower-Body Power! Use your lower body power and ground forces to create added distance!   Ron Kaspriske, the fitness editor for Golf Digest, provides an excellent exercise requiring a bench (or small table) plus a Swiss Ball.  (Available in most sports stores).  I have been doing this exercise for over a year now, and I love it!  Using the Swiss Ball also provides some instability, so you really have to engage the abs to keep yourself from falling over. However, this exercise will give you the explosive power on the downswing plus rotational power you are looking for.  Thanks to Ron and Golf Digest for this video!

Golf Digest fitness editor Ron Kaspriske demonstrates two variations of an exercise that will improve synchronicity in your downswing and also add more power to your shots.

Bench Step Turn.

You can use a bench or a low table as a prop for this exercise.  Get into a push-up position with both hands on the bench (or small table), raise one knee, and turn the knee under the body.  Do this five times.  This gives a great rotational twist while doing an internal rotation of the upper thigh. Next, do the other leg the same amount.

Physio Ball Step Turn.

Using a Physio Ball (Swiss Ball), you now basically do the same thing.  You get into a plank position on the ball, lift one knee, and twist under five times.  You now have a great cardio exercise and training the lower body to move in a powerful motion!
