Gary Player made an excellent living and won 9 Major Championships with a stellar short game.

Watch as Mel Sole shows you what he learned from his good friend Gary!  Chip shot, pitch shot, lob shot… what’s the difference?  Mel Sole discusses what makes these shots distinctive and introduces the Bump and Run shot, a unique type of chip shot that can help bring down your handicap. Use a fairly straight-faced club, land the ball short of the green, and let it roll to the flag!  Easy, Peasy!

Why use a straight-faced club?  Because using a lofted club and landing the ball short of the green on terrain that is unknown to you in terms of thickness of grass and hardness or softness of the ground does not give you a predictable bounce.  Using a straight-faced club like a 6, 7, or 8 iron will cause the ball to bounce forward.  The last thing you want on a shot like this to create backspin that will possibly cause the ball to come up short of the green!
