Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.

In last month's monthly golf tip, I spoke about hitting a slight draw. I have had several requests from golfers asking if the same principle applies for hitting a fade (a shot that curves to the right for right-handed golfers). The answer is yes, but I'll explain it anyway for those of you who need clarification. Use this method to hit a fade when you need it.

This is the very first way I learned to hit a fade when I was a beginner.  I used to stand on the range and hit fade after fade.  I was not very accurate initially, but I persevered and eventually was able to hit the fade to end up where I wanted it to.  Obviously, you do not use the alignment sticks while you are hitting the ball.  This is so that you get the picture!  Get it?

The Method.

In picture #1, I need to hit a fade around the tree.   I line up to the left of the tree (the direction I want the ball to start). I aim my clubface at my target (in this case, the tree trunk).

Now go ahead and make your normal swing.  The ball starts where you are aiming and draws to the target.

For those of you who have had difficulty fading a ball in the past, this is An easy way to hit a fade perfectly without actually changing your swing. Try it on the range before you attempt it on the course to know how the ball will react.
