Today I will discuss making more putts using what we call The Clock drill or the World drill. So we can have a better understanding of green-reading and have more focus on every putt. This is a great way to become a better putter!!
The focus is one of the most important aspects of putting. The best players I ever saw who could bring their focus to a very sharp point were Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. Both of those players sank more pressure putts than anybody else in the game. Their focus was absolute! I can still see Jacks' eyes on a critical putt. You could see the will in getting over the ball.
I remember Bob Rotella saying "Focus, is picking the smallest point that you want the ball to go!" That changed my game completely. I now understood that if I had a putt and saw the break at 2" right, then I would see the ball starting 2" right of the hole and curving back into the hole long before I actually hit the putt. Now, I was not correct 100% of the time, so sometimes I missed it. But I was always satisfied when I hit the putt on the line that I had chosen and the necessary speed. You cannot hole them all!
