Golf Video Blog by the Mel Sole Golf School.

Thursday's Video Blog is all about the technical aspects of the golf swing. Here you will find my lead instructor, David Olberding, and myself discussing the importance of maintaining the spine angle on the backswing and the downswing and what drill to do to maintain this on the course.

Placing a club across the shoulders and turning the shoulders at 90 degrees to the spine angle will automatically put you in a good position to start the downswing correctly.  And help maintain the correct spine angle through the hitting area.  This will prevent thin shots caused by coming out of the spine angle too early!

One of the biggest flaws in a beginner's golf swing is maintaining the spine angle.  Some people call it lifting the head.  But the head cannot lift anything.  Muscle tension in the back or lack of flexibility is why the golfer cannot maintain the spine angle.  It is a very difficult flaw to feel for the golfers, so the best practice is at home in front of a mirror.  Once the golfer understands what it feels like to keep the spine angle, he is on his way to correct it.
