If you find yourself in a bunker with a fairly shallow lip or no lip at all, then using the putter is definitely an option.  Particularly if you are not a good bunker player.  Check out this simple solution.

If the bunker's lip is shallow and not a very good bunker player, another option is.  The putter!  Using a putter out of a bunker is areally a no-brainer if this shot intimidates you.  The only bit of guesswork is deciding how hard to hit it.  Take the ball's distance to the edge of the green and add that to the other side of the flag.

When you are having your practice swings before you hit your putt (careful not to touch the sand), look at that spot past the hole and go ahead and play your shot.  Your hit should finish fairly close to the hole.  Sometimes the shallow lip might not be where you can play directly to the flag.  In that case, play away from the flag to a safe part of the green.  Rather be on the putting surface for your next shot!
