Today we add a shot to your arsenal of golf shots - that is, the Left-handed shot (for a right-handed golfer.)  Not that difficult a shot. (if you practice for a while on the range) This can make a huge difference when stuck against a tree or out of bounds fence.

The Technique.

The left-handed shot is not all that difficult.  The first thing you have to do is turn your lob wedge or sand wedge and flip the clubface over.  I use the lob or sand wedge because it has the biggest face.  You want to aim the clubface where you want the ball to go. Flip your grip around as well.  Let your right hand be your top hand at the address.

After that, it is very similar to a normal swing.  On the backswing, I will keep my right arm straight and, through the hitting area, keep the right arm straight.

When you attempt to hit the shot, make sure the head stays nice and steady. Shift your weight through to the front side as you would in a regular swing.  And the ball sails off down the fairway!

As with any of these "type" shots, you need to go to the driving range and practice the shot to gain some confidence in your ability to hit this shot.  The last thing you want is to try and hit this shot on the course without knowing how this shot is played.

So, the next time you need a left-handed shot on the course, step up and swing away, knowing that this is a skill you already have.
