Today's troubleshot is a ball in a divot.  Nothing is more disheartening than hitting a ball right down the middle of the fairway, only to find your ball in a divot. Not to worry, today we will explain exactly how to extricate your ball from this lie.  Two main things to take into consideration.  1. Move the ball back in your stance.  2. Select the right club.  And 3. Stay down through the shot!  Remember the old Chinese proverb.  "Look up, see bad shot!"

  1. Club Selection.

When the ball is in a divot, you need to take one club less than you normally would.  That is because of part 2 of this post.

      2. Ball Position.

It would be best to play this shot a little further back in your stance than you normally would.  It would be best if you had a descending blow with a lot more shaft forward lean.  This is going to de-loft the club and hit the ball lower but further.  The ball will normally land short of the green but bounce forward and run onto the green because of the trajectory.

     3. Execution.

It would be best if you really stayed down on this shot.  The tendency is to lift the ball into the air to get the ball out of the divot.  Trust the loft of the club.  Even though you are delofting the club by one, it still has loft and will still get the ball up into the air.
