Today we discuss how to hit a successful shot out of a divot.  Not a shot we get a lot of, and if you are playing "casual" golf, roll the ball to a better lie.  However, if you are playing competitively, this is how to make this shot a lot easier!

There are three keys to hitting a ball out of a divot to make solid contact.

  1. Move the ball slightly further back in the stance. Maybe the middle of the stance.
  2. Keep the weight on the front leg on the backswing.  This will help produce a steeper angle of attack and make sure the ball is struck before the bottom of the arc.
  3.  I cannot stress enough BODY ROTATION!  Without body rotation, the clubhead's angle of attack will come in too steep, and a fat shot will result.  You have to keep the body turning with the belt buckle finishing all the way through to the target at the finish of the swing! And a good extension.  No chicken wing!
