Like what I spoke about a month ago when I was talking about the High Lob Shot, this is not for the faint-hearted!  You have to be aggressive with this shot and totally commit to the outcome.  How do you achieve that?  By practicing this shot repeatedly, you gain the confidence to know that this shot is not as difficult as it looks!

The Club:  The correct club here is the 60-degree or lob wedge.  A sand wedge will have too much bounce and will skull the ball over the green.  A lob wedge will always have less bounce than a sand wedge.  So the lob wedge will slide under the ball a whole lot easier.

The Technique: The first thing to remember is that the head of the lob wedge is a lot harder than the hardpan you are hitting.  There is going to be some give in the ground, no matter how slight!

Keep the clubface square.  Do not open the clubface on this shot.  By opening the clubface, you will be adding additional loft that you do not want. Instead, play this shot like a sand shot and hit 2" behind the ball.  Be aggressive and take a small divot and make sure you follow through!
