Glutes Workout - Fitness Friday #20.

Today Alan Walters, Strength and Conditioning Coach at the European Tour Performance Institute at Jumeirah Golf Estates, provides some of his favorite exercises that help you increase flexibility and make you more powerful out on the golf course.

Alan recommends three exercises to activate the glutes.

  1. The first exercise needs a massage ball. A golf ball will do just as well.  lay on your side and place it in the correct spot. (you can find that spot by watching the video) Bottom leg straight, top leg bent with the foot flat on the ground.  Once you feel the spot (you'll know it when you find it), sink into the spot.  Roll the hip back and forth until the pain subsides and sinks into the spot again. Repeat three times!
  2. Take a seat on a chair cross your legs by putting your ankle onto your opposite knee. If it's your left side, turn to your left, pull your knee into you to get a powerful glute stretch.
  3. Toed-In Hamstring Stretch.  It would be best if you had a step or something similar.  Place the upper part of the foot against the step. Drop your right side down and the left side up, keeping the back as straight as possible. Hold for at least one minute.

Hold each stretch in this series for one minute on each side.  Do each exercise 3 times.  Do the combination of all of them 3 times in a row.
