Today I will discuss the process of hitting the elusive fairway bunker shot.  A shot most amateurs fear the most out on the golf course! This is not a difficult shot as long as you don't complicate matters.

The keys for the fairway bunker shot are:

Don't dig the feet into the sand.

When you dig the feet in, you lower your body.  If you grip the club normally, then there will be a tendency to it the shot fat.  Stand with your feet on top of the sand.

Play the ball position slightly further back in the stance.

To ensure that you hit the ball first, play is about 2 " further back in the stance. This will give a lower trajectory, allowing for a little more roll when the ball hits the green.

Swing exactly like a fairway shot.

Don't change anything.  I hit my fairway bunker shots the same as I hit my fairway shots.

Sticking to these three fairway bunker fundamentals will help you play successful fairway bunker shots in the future!
