Today Mel talks about bunker etiquette and how to exit a bunker.

Because the first green is about 60 yards from the golf school practice range, I watch players exiting the bunker next to the green.  95% of the golfers do not clean the sand off their shoes.  So they track the sand from the bunker that is still on the bottom of their shoes onto the putting surface.

Not only are you putting grains of sand onto your and other golfer's lines, but you are also causing damage to the greens mowers that have such fine tolerances.  This is so the greenskeeping staff can give you great surfaces to putt on.

Removing the sand is quite easy.  As you exit the bunker, hit the bottom of your shoe with the club, you have in your hand.  By slamming it once or twice, you will remove 85% of the sand. The rest will come off as you walk towards the green.  By the time you step onto the putting surface, there is almost no sand on your shoes.  The greenskeeping staff will thank you!
