Today we discuss how to hit a successful shot out of a divot. Not a shot we get a lot of, and if you are playing "casual" golf, roll the ball to a better lie. However, if you are playing competitively, this is how to make this shot a lot easier!
There are three keys to hitting a ball out of a divot to make solid contact.
- Move the ball slightly further back in the stance. Maybe the middle of the stance.
- Keep the weight on the front leg on the backswing. This will help produce a steeper angle of attack and make sure the ball is struck before the bottom of the arc.
- I cannot stress enough BODY ROTATION! Without body rotation, the clubhead's angle of attack will come in too steep, and a fat shot will result. You have to keep the body turning with the belt buckle finishing all the way through to the target at the finish of the swing! And a good extension. No chicken wing!
