Welcome to a new travel series, “Golf Travel Destinations.” Different travel locations for your golfing pleasure brought to you by me in conjunction with PGA.com. Our first destination is Tampa, FL. A great golfing destination because of the perfect golfing weather year-round. And, of course, delicious southern food is on the menu. Please post your comments below on what you think of the new series and which destination you would like to see next!
PGA.com presents to you a fantastic golf itinerary that you might want to put together the next time you’re in the Tampa Bay area on Florida’s west coast. Our crew offers a look at four great courses along with some delicious dining options for an unforgettable golf getaway.
Top 5 Golf Courses in Tampa.
5. FOX HOLLOW GOLF CLUB.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr, each hole on the Fox Hollow course presents its own unique set of challenges. While some have open fairways, strategically placed water hazards and sand traps will keep you honest.
4. CHEVAL GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB.
3. LAKE JOVITA GOLF & COUNTRY CLUB.
Lake Jovita offers two golf courses that trick you into believing you are playing in North Carolina. This is the hilly section of Tampa Bay, and the elevation changes have been used for dramatic effect on the course. A visit to Lake Jovita offers many perks, from curb-side service to free practice balls for the driving range to the conveniently located coolers in the golf carts.
2. TPC OF TAMPA BAY.
If you took a poll of golfers in Tampa, chances are they will name TPC of Tampa Bay as the toughest public access golf course in the region. This award-winning course is part of the PGA Tour’s Tournament Players Club network and was designed by Bobby Weed with PGA professional Chi Chi Rodriguez.
1. COPPERHEAD COURSE AT INNISBROOK – A SALAMANDER GOLF & SPA RESORT.
Just over the bridge from Tampa is the Innisbrook Copperhead Course in Palm Harbor. One of the PGA Tour’s favorite stops, this course tests even the most seasoned professionals at the Valspar Championship held every March. Especially well-known for its “Snake Pit,” aka holes 16, 17, and 18, players must watch out, or they will get bit!
We take our golf seriously in Florida!
We take our golf seriously in Florida, particularly in Tampa, where there are dozens of challenging world-class tracks to conquer. With so many choices, making a decision can be difficult. To help you out, 10 Best has compiled a list of the area’s best. When it comes to golf, we’ve got you covered.
Tampa Bay has some fine resort courses for the discerning golfer, with the most popular being the Innisbrook Golf Resort. Here you will find the Copperhead Course, one of the most challenging tracks on the PGA Tour. Recently renovated from tee to green, this may be the best round of golf you ever play.
If you’re looking for a quality public course, Tampa has many well-maintained, challenging courses to play. These courses are, for the most part, very reasonably priced as well. Budget golfers will especially enjoy playing Rocky Point, one of the city’s two municipal courses. Located just minutes from the airport, this is the perfect option for busy people.
