Monthly Golf Tips by the Mel Sole Golf School.

Unfortunately, it's quite easy to pick up bad golf habits, and before you know it, your golf swing can get completely out of whack. Join Mel Sole and Chris Marsh for this comprehensive examination of proper address position and posture. Mel touches on knee and arm positions, alignment, and ball position. Start your swing right, and you'll enjoy better results out on the course!

This month, along with student Chris Marsh, I show how easy the swing can change when the posture and ball position are slightly off.

Posture.

In your address position, the posture is determined by placing your palms flat on your thighs and then sliding your palms down until the index finger touches the top of the kneecap.  This sets the spine angle, and the arms should be hanging at 90 degrees from the shoulder.  There should be absolutely no tension in the arms in this position. By setting the spine angle in this manner, the spine angle will be correct for your swing no matter your height or arm length.

Ball Position.

The ball position should be 2" inside the lead heel for all iron shots. Directly off the lead heel for fairway wood shots and off the instep of the lead heel with the driver.  This allows for 3 ball positions but one golf swing.  The bottom of the arc is the same for all clubs.  See the related golf tips below.

So you can clearly see How poor address position affects your swing. So pay close attention to your address position every time you step up to the ball.
