David Olberding, the lead instructor at the Mel Sole Golf School, helps you understand how to stop coming over the top with a straightforward drill.  Check it out!

Have you ever skipped stonds on a pond as a child?  No one ever had to teach you how to do it.  It was a completely natural motion.  As we get older, we tend to lose those instincts. So go back to throwing a ball underhand on the range and notice how your shoulders work.  I very seldom see the student's rear shoulder stay high.  Most of the time, the right shoulder will drop down, the lead shoulder will go up, and the arm will come through on the correct path to throw the ball in a straight line.

It is the same as the golf swing.  PGA Class A Instructor David Olberding shows how making a student focus on bringing his rear shoulder under helped him produce the correct path to hit the ball dead straight consistently.

This shoulder motion is constant with all full golf shots.  Regardless of the shot being with the driver, an iron, or a wedge, always work the rear under the downswing and follow-through to eliminate that over-the-top swing motion!
