Tim Clark is a fellow South African who has put with the long putter ever since he was a junior.  I hope this article is true, and Tim really has found Nirvana!

Tim Clark is the only player on the PGA Tour I know who has used the anchored putting method since day one.  When he started to play golf, he used this stroke.  He has not experienced any other type of putter or putting stroke.  At one stage, Tim Clark put out such an impassioned plea to Tim Finchem of the PGA Tour that Finchem (for a brief moment) considered changing the rule back.

However, pressure from the USGA and the R&A finally won, and the ban was put in place.  I had more of an interest than most in Tim's future because he is a fellow countryman, and I have always followed his career and pulled for him.  His Achilles heel was always his distance off the tee, and his strength was his putting.  It was now quite possible that his entire career would be in jeopardy.  But, Tim, in true South African fashion, accomplished his goal.  Thanks must go to Golf World for bringing us this breaking story!

Apparently, Tim Clark can putt without anchoring. Despite saying that a physical condition would make conventional putting difficult, Clark fared well in his first event in which he had to use a non-anchored stroke. Using a Biomech Ace mallet—a design that promotes the grip resting against the left forearm—Clark finished T-13 at the Sony Open, posting an impressive 1.201 in strokes gained/putting to rank ninth for the week.

Clark was one of the most outspoken proponents of the anchor ban.  “I planned to play until I physically could no longer play. Now I’ve been told you’re going to change the way you putt it in a few years. So now my future is uncertain.” For one week, at least, the anchor ban was no problem for Clark.
