"Foot by" Speed - Short Game Saturday #21.

Today we continue with the theme of drills you can do to improve your putting. Learning to control your short putts' pace to maximize the chance of your ball going in the hole!

"Foot by" speed is the speed of a putt that goes one foot past the hole.  Research has shown that this is the perfect speed for a ball to have the maximum chance of falling in the hole if it catches the left or right edge of the hole.

Most golfers, when doing their practice swings before they putt, look at the hole!  That is why most golfers leave their putts short!  When doing your practice swings before hitting your putt, look one foot past the hole!  That way, you will never leave your putts short!

Here is a great drill!

Place a tee 1 foot past the hole and another tee 18 inches past the hole.  Place your practice balls about 5 feet from the hole.  The goal is to try and hole all of them, obviously.  However, if you miss the hole, the ball should travel past the first tee and stop before the second tee!  You are now practicing both line and speed!
