Today I will discuss how to turn your hips in the backswing instead of sliding your hips to hit more solid golf shots.

Picture a Baseball Pitcher.

The best way I can describe a pivot is to picture a baseball pitcher. He pivots around his rear hip.  If he swayed the hip, he would fall over backward.  That feeling of the hip going behind you and the sternum over your rear foot at the top of the backswing is the feel you are looking for.

Sometimes at home, stand in front of a mirror and watch your rear hip.  If there is no lateral movement and you have most of your weight on that back foot at the top, you are doing it correctly.  Work on the correct move over and over until it feels comfortable if you are doing it correctly.

If you are on the driving range, use an alignment stick, and put it in the ground with the end against your rear hip.  When you swing, the stick should not dig into you.  Once you can do this, you will notice an easier weight shift and more power in your golf swing!

Thanks for watching -The Correct Pivot - Technical Tuesday #30. This move should produce more coil on the backswing and, in turn, more power.
