So today, we talk about hitting out of a fairway bunker. Considering the bunker lip in front of you, the area you want to land the ball down the fairway, and how to select the right club to achieve all of that.
To make sure you choose the right club, stand outside the bunker, place the club that you want to hit on the ground with the clubface facing upward. Stand on the clubface. The angle that the shaft produces is the approximate launch angle of that club. See if that launch angle will clear the face of the bunker. If it does, take the club and hit the shot. If it does not, choose a club with a higher loft and do the test again. You want the launch angle to easily clear the bunker's face because this launch angle is only approximate. So give yourself some margin of error!
If you are taking a club that will land the ball short of the green, check out the landing area the club you are using is going to take you. If there is another fairway bunker out there, make sure you take a higher lofted club to land short of that. Always managing our game for success!
