Every golfer I have ever worked with has always asked the question, "How do I get more distance?"  The answer to that question will be answered in the next five weeks as I go through the 5 important steps on gaining more distance in your golf swing. So here is the Golf Swing Power Package - Part 1.

The Start of the backswing.

To get the maximum width on the backswing, you must keep the V formed by your arms intact through the first part of the takeaway.  The common move is to fold the trail arm (right arm for right-handed golfers) too soon.  Maintain this V until at least hip height.  Make sure there is no tension in the arms when you get to this position.

To get the feel of this move, take a club and put the butt end of the club on your sternum.  Slide your hands down the shaft until the arms are fully extended.  Get into your golfing posture and start by rotating your torso to the rear.  You will feel almost immediately that the backswing is initiated with the chest and not with the arms or hands.  If you start with the arms or hands, the club will immediately get caught up in your clothing.  Now take your normal stance and try and create the same feeling.  This is the start of the backswing.
