Today David Olberding discusses how to keep your clubhead low to the ground while chipping. This will give you a more consistent strike!
Placing an alignment stick at an angle in front of the chipping stroke helps the golfer keep the clubhead low to the ground. The moment the golfer tries to scoop the ball, and the clubhead gets too high. It will strike the alignment stick. This gives the student important feedback until they can make the motion correctly!
The strike is also a lot more consistent. The angle of attack comes into the ball on a much shallower plane.
This is a drill that you can do on your lawn at home. With the help of the alignment stick, work on keeping the clubhead close to the ground and the clubface as square to the target as long as you can. There is no reason you cannot chip as well and any PGA Tour player. There is no strength or timing involved. Just practice your chipping to take loads of shots off your score!
A little bit of practice (even at home) will have you chipping well in no time!
