Today Mel discusses the latest in grip technology.  Having new grips on your clubs once a year can make a huge difference to your scoring.

It amazes me that many of them have old and slippery golf grips on their clubs when students come to golf school.  When I ask when was the last time they had new grips put on their clubs, the answer is either never or several years ago!  Folks, if you play golf regularly (about once a week), you need new grips on your clubs at least once a year.  Every second year if you only play once a month.

Types of grips.

There are several different grips from different manufacturers.  Golf pride and Wynn are the top two in this category.  The models all depend on what type of feel you like.  I personally like a soft feel, so I have a Wynn Dri-Tac on my clubs.  Golf stores will have several already installed on a piece of the shaft so you can feel for yourself.

Correct size.

Ensure the hands wrap around the grip with the upper hand's index finger, just barely touching the pad just below the thumb.  If the index finger digs in, the grip is too small, and if there is a gap, the grip is too large.  Sometimes it is a good idea if you are not sure first to install one grip on your favorite club and see before installing them on all your clubs.
