In our Golf Video Blog series, watch Mel Sole from the Mel Sole Golf School demonstrates how to play a chip shot where the ball is significantly above your feet.

The big key here is to find out exactly where the bottom of the arc is going to be.  So not only do you grip down on the club because the ball is higher, but do several practice swings and pay attention to where the club is striking the ground relative to your foot position.  As you cannot move the ball, shuffle your feet to accommodate where you see the bottom of the arc happening. This will be your new ball position. You can then go ahead and play the shot, confident that the impact will be nice and crisp! Keep your weight on the back foot with this shot.  Because the lead foot is higher, moving the weight forward will raise the body, and you'll top or skull the ball.
