Hi, I’m Mel Sole, Director of Instruction at the Mel Sole Golf School, headquartered at Pawleys Plantation Golf and Country Club in Pawleys Island, SC.  We conduct 1, 2, and 3-day golf schools, hourly golf lessons, and senior golf schools—any golf instruction program your heart desires. Give us a call at 800-624-4653 or 843-237-4993.  We will be happy to book a commuter school or a package that contains accommodations, golf, and golf school.

Today David Olberding will discuss how to find the bottom of the arc in the downswing using a proper weight shift and keeping the arm straight throughout the swing!

By drawing a chalk line on the ground and placing the ball just in front of that line, you can see whether you are contacting the ball first or not.  This is golf 101!  If you cannot control the bottom of the swing arc, you cannot play golf!

Your best practice as a beginner or high handicapper is to swing a club at home.  Make sure that each swing of the club brushes the grass.  This is telling you that you're controlling the bottom of the arc.

Do not stop working on this part of your game until you can hit shot after shot and not hit the chalk line behind the ball.  Hundreds of students over the years have asked me, "How do I play more consistent golf?"  This is it.  Period!
