The Role of Body Rotation in Swing Power

In this first of two videos about getting more power in your golf swing, I demonstrate a drill that uses the Orange Whip Golf Swing Trainer to focus on body rotation.

This month is my 50th anniversary of being a golf professional.

I turned pro on the 1st of February, 1966. What a pleasure it has been. I have made hundreds of friends worldwide and have a great time while doing what I do, teach!

Watch as I demonstrate how using the Orange Whip will help generate more flexibility in your golf swing.

Where does power in the golf swing come from?

The two main sources of power in the golf swing comes from weight shift and body rotation. Of course, there are other factors as well, but these two are definitely the top 2.

How can I increase body rotation?

The product I use to help my body rotation and my flexibility is the Orange Whip! You can purchase one of these at orangewhip.com for about $110.00 or try eBay, where you might find one cheaper.

Start by swing the orange whip back and forth, slowly. It is quite heavy, and so you do not want to start off swinging hard. Slowly as you start to stretch out, you can increase the swing speed. And you notice in this video that the club starts to pull me around more and more.

Take this to the next level!

Put a towel on the ground and get on your knees. Swing the orange whip horizontally like a base baseball bat. You isolate the lower body, so the upper body and lower back get a really great stretch! You are improving your flexibility, improving your strength in your forearms and improving your body rotation. How can you not do this drill if you are looking for power!

Remember to do both sides of the body when doing this. Both left-handed and right-handed swings equally.
