Practice at home when the weather outside is not condusive to practice outdoors.

Make Practice at Home a Habit.

In our February 2018 Golf Tip, we talk how to practice at home to improve your golf when the weather outside is nasty.  By doing these drill every day, you can develop a solid routine.  A good putting stroke will stand you in good stead throughout the coming months.  This is not only for the golfers who do not have the ability to practice outdoors because of the winter weather, but those who may not have time during the day to get in some meaningful practice because of the short days.  February and March are good times to work . . .

Aim the Line for Accurate Putting

In this month's golf tip I talk about aiming the line on the golf ball.  There are some optical illusions at play and if you don't know this it can have quite an effect on your putting.  Check this out!

Today is December 24th, 2016, and we present Short Game Saturday in our Golf Video Blog series.  Today we discuss putting technique and how to use an inexpensive teaching aid called a wrist TacTic to help with the breakdown of the lead wrist through impact.  You will also see that using an alignment stick adds to the learning process!  To all my students and followers, have a Merry Christmas and a very prosperous 2017!

Develop a Good Putting Stroke

Ever wondered what “Release” in putting means? Find out here!

Ted Norby of National University Golf Academy gives you a way to not only set up correctly when putting but helps you understand how the "release" in putting will help make more putts!  I personally like the straight back, straight through method of putting, but if you have a heel shafted putter like Ted in this video, this is definitely the way to go!

Great putters don’t hole everything. Be patient with yourself!

As a former South African Tour player, (who was not a great putter) I understand how important it is to putt well.  And I was certainly hard on myself when I did not hole a putt.  In those days we didn't possess the information that is available for today's tour players.  When Matthew Guyatt started to look at the putting stats of the top putters on tour, he realized that they also did not hole every putt.  That took the mental pressure off his game and his hopes for the future are a lot brighter!  Thanks . . .

If you want to be a good putter, no stinking thinking!

Most golfers tend to get too mechanical with their golf swing and putting stroke.  There is a time for mechanical thoughts - on the practice range or putting green, but once you go out onto the course, let your natural instincts take over and play "like a child"  I think you'll do much better!

So here Dave Marsh for iGolfTV gives us a good tip on distracting the mind from the task at hand and allowing your natural instinct . . .

Great putting drill for both feel and direction.

Thomas Bjorn is the European Tour version of Freddy Couples.  He's laid back and a really nice guy.  My heart broke for him when he played 2 poor bunker shots to lose the Open Championship in 2003 at Royal St. George's.

Here is a great putting drill brought to you by Callaway Golf EU.

Watch 2011 Johnnie Walker and Omega Masters Champion Thomas Bjorn as he gives some key putting tips that you can use on the practice green prior to your round

The case of the “Moving Head” solved!

For about the last year I have noticed that when I putt, my head tends to move backwards as I hit the ball.  This causes the putter-head to move to the left and a pulled putt results.  I am totally unaware of this movement, and one of my instructors pointed it out to me so I videotaped my putting stroke, and sure enough, there it was.  So, I devised a drill whereby I stand with my head on the door jam and putt.  Now I know FOR SURE that I am keeping my head still.   That habit creeps back . . .

To be a good putter, squaring the shoulders is critical!

To be a good putter, setup is everything.  One of the critical components of a good setup in putting is the shoulders.  The shoulders determine putter head path.  If the shoulders are open, the putter will move left and the opposite is the shoulders are closed.  Here Piers Ward and Andy Proudman of Meandmygolf  demonstrate what it takes to have a perfect setup for a consistent putting stroke. Thanks for sharing . . .
