Single Most Important Way to “Go Green” on the course

April 22nd was 'EARTH DAY' and people worldwide performed hundreds of nifty "Go Green" eco-friendly practices. We know that golf courses are making efforts to cut down on harmful chemicals and pesticides, but what can the average golfer do?

Turn your green time even greener with the Dixon Earth golf ball, a high-performance, organic golf ball made of rock salt rather than earth-unfriendly heavy metals like lead, tungsten, and titanium.

The Dixon Earth ball is . . .

Like the Wings of a Dove! How a golf ball flies!

The engineers at Titleist explain how the dimples on a golf ball show how a golf ball flies higher and further.  They illustrate how a golf ball with no dimples will not fly very well at all.  It will travel like a knuckleball in baseball.  By using their "Iron Byron" golf swing simulator which produces an exact swing time after time, Titleist can experiment with various dimple configurations in order to design the next generation of golf balls that will simple fly like the wings of a dove!

Sun Mountain Golf Bag a Game Changer!

In 2013 I took a group of my students to South Africa on a golf/safari trip.  One of my fellow travelers had a unique golf bag that had a set of wheels which popped out from the bag at the exact angle to easily pull the bag along through busy airports.  This was the Sun Mountain Club Glider Meridian! Of course, as soon as I got home I ordered one and in 2014 when I took another group to Scotland (see the . . .

Kronos Putter Review. A New Player in the Putter Market?

Growing up in South Africa, my two golfing heros were Gary Player and Bobby Locke.  Bobby Locke won 4 British Open Championships and won 15 times on the PGA Tour, and was regarded as one of the greatest putters of all time.  He won a total of 75 tournaments worldwide.  I was very fortunate to play many rounds of golf with Bobby at Observatory Golf Club just outside Johannesburg.  He was always the gentleman, and I have never seen anyone who had the skill to read greens as well as he did.  Reading this report by Sean Weir . . .

Regrip your clubs with Air! This is really Cool!

Playing golf with grips in good condition is important for your golf swing. Worn grips become slick and require greater than normal grip pressure to hold adequately. In turn, this can add tension throughout your golf swing causing all sorts of problems.

The average golfer should regrip their golf clubs at least once per year. Aside from the cost of the grips, most golf shops will charge around $3 per club in labor cost. With 14 clubs in the bag, that cost can quickly add up over time. However, regripping is something that can . . .

Seniors. 4 suggestions for choosing new clubs. #2 will help your game the most!

As we get older our distance decreases because our swing speed decreases. Less swing speed means more shaft flex is needed. With more flex, call it 'Senior Flex,' the club face moves faster throughout the swing, which results in more distance.

Seniors also should carry Hybrids in their bags. They are easier to hit than low irons, and generally add more distance and consistency. They also help golfers to get out of trouble spots, like mulch, etc.

Here’s my golf clubs. Help yourself!

We all do it. We leave our bag of golf clubs outside, unattended, while we go into the clubhouse for lunch or head for the 19th hole after the round.

As 'Grouch' says in his grouchygolf.blog, “For some reason, there's sort of a mutual feeling of trust amongst golfers at golf courses. It's like we're all soldiers waging war against a common enemy: the golf course. No golfer would dare to steal the weapons of their brothers in arms.”

The unique world of custom putter fitting.

The world of custom putter fitting is a new one for me.  I have been fitting Mizuno clubs for about 4 years now but have never ventured into the unique area of putter fitting.  I've never been a great putter, so maybe I should look a little deeper into this world that is so foreign to me.  There are certainly some talented and capable guys in this article authored by Matthew Rudy of Golf Digest.
